Member Guest Highlights


First of all, I want to thank all the board members for helping out today.  Bobby Lindner for checking everyone in.  Bob Lopez for running the raffle.  Jim Reich & Mike Goldberg for the water, soda and tubs.  Jim Reich & Jason Bouzos for helping me set up the contest holes.  Tommy Watson for hole in one fund. Tommy, Jim R. & Jason for helping me with results.  Brad Webster & Mike Botta for running the derby.   La Puerta for the food.  Jason Petree and staff for setting up tables, chairs and tents. (No, not the Hidden Valley tents…lol) If I missed anyone thank you for behind the scene help.

Ok, now to the action.   Unfortunately no hole in one’s today, so no $10.000, no big screen T.V., no Calloway Club, no airflight…. but we had some incredible closest to the pin winners.  Led by my son Big Game James Mansfield who was 6 inches away on # 5.  Barry Pleshe was 1’ 8” on # 8.  Don Graham wins 2 closest to the pins and a long putt. Guest Lance Indes also had 2 closest too’s , so did Brad Webster. Larry Franklin, Chip Fabrizio, Walt Furfey, Bill Vanettes, and Bob Goldberg all had one.   The Long Drives were hit by Member Ray Coats (Don’t ask Fermin to measure for you he always add’s 20 extra yards) But nice pop!!!  Bart Hakeman wins for the Guest.   Skin winners: Double dippers, Don Dow Birdes # 10 to give him a Gross & Net Skin worth $166.  So does Brad Webster for his bird on # 11 and Fermin Andres for his eagle on # 18.   Net winners for $50 each were Tom Watson for his bird on #14, Jay Patella for his double pop -par on # 6.  Walt Furfey for his birdie on # 7 and Jeff Joyce for his bird on # 4.  Mansfield and Hakeman lead the field with 9 birds today 4 by Jim and 5 by Bart to take down first place best ball with a -5 (54).   2 Teams shot a -1 (58) but team Chavez & Winslow wins tie breaker and takes 2nd place , giving Mullican / Igarashi 3rd gross.  Team Walker / Pleshe & Lindner / Vetere shot a 60 and take 4th & 5th also winning a tie breaker.  The Net teams were led by Cessna / Baldwin who shot -14 (45) to take down first net.  Dow / Furfey shot -11 (48) to win 2nd.  Caprez / West -10 (49) take 3rd.  4 teams shot net 50 but O’Brien / Hutchens & Lopez / Indes win tie breakers to take 4th & 5th.

I don’t have Raffle winners but I think we had 20-30ish players walk away with prizes totally over $2,000, congratulations to all of you who won something.  

The derby was long but exciting!  Only 3 out of 12 teams were able to par the first Derby hole # 16 to advance (Team-Mansfield, Chavez & Mullican) the rest had to do chip offs to advance. Team Lindner had best chip for Gross side to move on.   Team Graham & Team Walker were eliminated..  The net side Team Cessna was eliminated with a 5.  Team Watson also eliminated with the farthest for the hole chip. 

Hole # 17 put a lot of teams in some bad spots.  With 5 teams having to go to a chip off after getting bogey 5’s.  Team Mullican moves on with a par for the gross side. Team O’Brien advances with a birdie 3 for the net side as does Team Lopez with their par 4. .  Team Chavez & Lindner out chip Team Mansfield to advance to the money hole # 18.  Team Caprez out chips team bouzos to advance on the net side.   5 Teams find the 18th Fairway. Team Chavez is in the dirt left of the green, but almost pin high.  Chavez makes a great chip to leave his partner a 3 footer which he made for birdie and take first place on the Gross side.  Team Mullican had about a 5 footer that just broke at the hole but they tapped in for par to take 2nd place.  Team Lindner missed their par putt so they settle for a 3rd place win.  On the Net side team O’Brien was able to make a 1 putt par to take down first place net.  Team Caprez & Team Lopez both 3 putted from back of the green with a red flag so ended up with 5’s.  Team Caprez once again wins the chip off so they get the 2nd place money.  Team Lopez will settle for 3rd.  

I hope everyone had fun today !!!  I did not hear? How many of our guest took advantage of becoming new Birch Members today?  I guess I will find out shortly.
