Jack Smith

Jack Smith.JPG

Jack is the 2nd oldest member of the club at 86.  Born on Aug. 23 1938 in Santa Ana.  He attended Valencia HS in Placentia, then served 6 years in the Army Reserves in the from 1960-1966.

He was also a competitive skier/observer and won 8 World Championships..... now spends most of his Sundays at Birch hustling everyone (mostly me) with his golf skills.

Jack was married for 59 years to his wife Linda, who sadly past away 4 years ago.  Jack has two sons, Ron and Dean....              We all see Dean every now and then as he trains with his dad on the art of the hustle, also a good golfer.

Jack's a great guy and now you know a little be more about him, when you see him, ask him to quit out driving me....Conrad too!

Frank McBride

Frank McBride.jpg

Frank (Aqua-Man) McBride is the clubs oldest member by age and was born April 3rd, 1937 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania.  Frank attended the Wharton School of Business at the Univ. of Pennsylvania and also studied at Cal State Fullerton.

Frank was married to his wife Judy in 1969, has 3 children, Dawn, Francis and Shawn and 2 grandchildren.

Frank worked for Arco and was transferred to Calif. in 1974, where he worked until he retired in1986.  Frank continued to work as a consultant in the oil industry until he retired again in 2018

On a sad note, Franks father, Francis James McBride was killed in 1944 at the Battle of the Bulge in the Malmedy massacre along with 83 other American prisoners of war.

Franks favorite golfers were/are Ben Hogan, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Arnold Palmer and some guy named Webster.  Not sure about that last one, but who am I to judge?

Frank is one of the nicest members of the club and if you wonder how he got the nickname "Aqua-Man", you'll have to ask him next time you see him. As you can see, he still wears his goggles every time he plays at Birch, especially around the 18th green.

Thank you Frank for the Member Spotlight and we hope to see you on the course for many years to come.

Cliff Adams

Cliff Adams_edited.jpg

Cliff Adams was one of the original founding fathers of the Birch Hills Men's Club, when he became a member in Dec. 1974, that's when the course first opened and he has been a member ever since.

Cliff was born in Canada, but has been a Brea resident since forever (almost).  He graduated from Brea Olinda HS in 1969, and married his wife Jill in 1978.  They have two children, Justin (40) and daughter Carrie (38).

Those 3 are the most special things in his life, but after that, it might be his 1970 Chevy El Camino, which he purchased new, right out of high    school.  For you motorheads out there, he's got a 383 stroker motor under the hood, so be careful if you choose to race him for pinks.

Cliff was recognized years ago for all of his contributions to the Club, when he was given the honor of a Lifetime Membership
