Slow Play is not fun for anyone, but with a little effort we can make things better, here are some guidelines that will help:
At the Tee Box:
• When you’ve reached a Tee Box, get out of the cart and be ready to play when it’s your turn
• If it’s not your turn, watch your opponents hit, that could help to find it later and save a lot of time.
• Play ready golf, especially if your group is behind.
At the Green:
• Begin to read your putt a.s.a.p. and be ready to go when it’s your turn.
• Be aware of others players ready to play and don’t hinder their ability to do so.
• Leave your cart, bag and/or extra clubs in your exit path from the green
• Exit the green immediately after the last player has holed out and enter the scores at the next Tee Box.
Everywhere Else:
• 3 Min. search for lost balls – MAX, that’s the rules
• When your ball is OB or you just can’t find it, consider using the Model Local Rule E-5 that we adopted years ago. Click the link below to view a video showing your options, this is also spelled out in the BHMC Local Rules.
• When players share a cart, try to split up once you arrive at the first ball, let the other player go to prepare for their next shot
But remember, golf is not a race, it’s meant to be relaxing and can be, if we try to follow the procedures listed above.
Expectations:
• 3 ½ Hour Round @ Birch
• 4 ½ Hour Round @ Away Courses
If you do fall behind, try these things to help you catch up
• When you’re 1 shot behind, put a little extra in your step
• When you’re 1 hole behind, put a lot extra in your step
• When you’re more than that, you’re not trying to catch up!
• Last resort, ask the group ahead of you to slow down a little, they’re making you look slow.
